Isles of Scilly - 3rd October 2020

A long drive down on the Friday in terrible weather conditions.  Lots of accidents which in itself was awful but was grateful they were all on the eastbound direction.

It was some relief to have arrived in Cornwall unscathed, stopping off at Godrevy Point which was blowing an absolute hoolie.  Braving a walk from the point car park, waders were somehow withstanding the barrage and two Purple Sandpiper scuttling along the rocks was unexpected.  A single Knot and Dunlin were also braving the elements with a large group of Oystercatcher and Turnstone.

Flying out of Lands End after an hour delay was exhilarating.  The Twin Otters despite being forty plus years old are made of tough stuff and catapult off the runway like rockets.  With enormous amounts of skill, the pilots made a gentle landing into a strong headwind.

There wasn't much time but at least it was sunny despite the strong breeze.  The Nightingale at the dump failed to show so I headed up Porthloo Road for the Barred Warbler that was far more obliging.

It really doesn't feel rare out here - the wind is strong and relentless.  Always great to be back though but hoping that the weather improves.
