Thailand & Cambodia - Day Three - Bangkok

A late arrival at the Paragon One Residence close to the tourist trappings was where I spent the first two nights.  The sultry night air felt like a warm embrace as I made my way to the hotel.  It's a reasonable distance from the airport to the central tourist zone and 500 THB (c£12) appears to be the going rate for a single journey.

It felt great waking up to hot sunshine and after a modest inclusive breakfast, headed out for the day.

This was my third visit to the city, and after an exhausting journey I hadn't the inclination to tear up the streets and visit all (or any) of the tourist hotspots.  Of course that was never going to be the case, but the pace was slow and after a casual stroll through the local streets, I made for Wat Pho.

The complex of temples here are stunning, every corner exhibiting an adornment of Buddha demonstrating the religious fervour of a nations' search for enlightenment.

The centrepiece of the site is the Reclining Buddha stretching out at 46m, looking relaxed with an enduring authority not lost on the masses that pass through the temple.

More wanderings onto the Khaosan Road, an area popular with pack-packing tourists.  It's always buzzing with street-side bars, massage shops, and hawkers selling their wears.  It was great to sit, relax, and watch the gluttons of curiosity float by.
