Bempton Cliffs RSPB

A really dull day and another hard day in the field with a few highlights.  Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve is a fabulous place.  The sheer cliff faces are home to tens of thousands of seabirds.  It was way after post-breeding but a few Gannet were still present on their perilous cliff-edged nest sites.

The wind was a keen south-westerly and it was mild, but fresh migrants were almost non-existent.

The highlights were a Tawny Owl roosting in the dell, a first for the reserve.  A male Bullfinch was a nice surprise but was extremely wary as it dived into cover.  A stunning Barn Owl hunted in front of the reserve late afternoon.

The resident Tree Sparrow in decent numbers were great to watch at the feeding station.
