Costa Rica - Finca Agro Forestal

The next stage of the trip was a visit to another of the country's iconic destinations at Arenal. The National Park is distinguished by an active volcano that is still smouldering after its last eruption in 2010. The surrounding area features swathes of fertile land, forests and rivers.

We stayed at the Finca Agroforestal for three nights.  Around 50 minutes from the central hub of Arenal, La Fortuna, this local enterprise is tucked in from the main thoroughfare, a 3km car-breaking drive up to the Cabinas.

This is the project of a beautiful young couple that have for the last six years, created a tranquil setting for guests to enjoy Costa Rican wildlife and culture.  All the food served at breakfast (and optional dinner) are grown and prepared on the estate.  It was an amazing experience spending time here.

The self-built observatory tower provides views over the rainforest and is a great way to spend a couple of hours in the depths of nature.

The feeding station was full of birdlife.
